Long Island City Development Capitalizes On Adaptive Reuse In Urban Markets

A Long Island City facility is showcasing how adaptive reuse in the life-science sector can give new developments a better way to integrate into dense urban markets.

Designed by Perkins&Will and developed by King Street Properties, Innolabs revamps a pre-1930s structure with a new overbuild, offices, and lab spaces.

Through integrating adaptive reuse there was not only a speed to market but also curb appeal by seamlessly blending old and new into their façade, while retaining the scale of the street and smoothly adjusting to the neighborhood.

In addition, by using the previous structure, the reduction in waste production lent itself to a LEED Gold certification, which was applauded by both talent and tenants alike.
