Metropolitan State University of Denver Opens a New Brewing Laboratory

The Metropolitan State University of Denver celebrated the opening of a new brewing laboratory in September.

The Charlie Papazian Brewing Education Lab will support MSU’s Brewery Operations Program.

This new lab will provide students with experiences to create different types of brews on a commercial-scale system, and a potential pub to sell the alcohol creations once licensing is secured.

As part of MSU’s School of Hospitality, the 1,500-square-foot facility is equipped like a small to medium-sized commercial brewery with a 3½-barrel commercial brewing system.

In addition, the facility also includes a ten-tap bar where students will design, brew, and serve various boozy concoctions.

There are reportedly over 400 craft breweries in the Colorado area that employ roughly 16,000 residents, resulting in an estimated $2.4 billion to the state’s economy, according to the Brewers Association.

One of the goals of the new lab is to contribute to these statistics in revenue, skills, and product services.
