This course is a behind-the-scenes look at the design and construction process for lab spaces. It will cover the different phases of design, critical steps in the process, and the information conveyed in the design team's drawings and specifications. It will also review the permitting, bidding, and construction process, to illustrate how the design team works with the general contractor to take these blueprints and turn them into lab buildings.
Learning objectives:
Understanding the different phases of the design process, and critical steps and key players involved at each phase.
Identifying each design discipline and the type of information that is conveyed in each discipline's drawings and specifications.
Understanding the process of bidding and permitting the design team's drawings and specifications.
Understanding how information and changes are captured and communicated during the construction process, and the steps involved in finishing a project.
