New Indian Space Design Lab For Start-Ups

A new space design lab in the Indian city of Ahmedabad is helping start-ups in the space sector; turning ideas into implementable models.

The Space Systems Design Lab of the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe) will build prototypes to assist in mitigating research and development costs for start-ups.

Fitted with computing technologies, 16 workstations, and multi-core servers, the lab uses a series of software to analyze and stimulate ground stations, mission simulations, launch vehicle avionics, and optimize payload and spacecraft.

The software used for visualizing, and modeling, includes 3D CAD Mach 3, Simcenter 3D space System, Finite Element analysis structure (FEAST), and OpticStudio (Zemax).

Other systems include structural and thermal design analysis for space systems, a Systems Tool Kit, Advance Design Systems, Pathwave System Design, and high-frequency structure simulation.

Non-government entities (NGEs) will have access to training sessions and workshops to use the software and in conjunction will help develop space technologies.
