New Designs for County Forensic Lab

New designs were unveiled for a Jefferson County forensic lab.

In March, The Jefferson County Council approved a budget transfer, of up to $690,000, for a lab to be built and funded by the Sheriff’s Office.

The design lab will help process criminal evidence.

An estimated $4 million is set for the building of approximately 9,000 to 10,000 square feet, set to be built in Pevely near an existing evidence storage facility.

The new lab will include processing for DNA evidence, firearms vehicles, fingerprints, and drug tests. Another section will be dedicated to computer crimes.

The county estimates a budget of $1 million to $1.5 million to equip the lab, which will be allotted through the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARPA).
