Phoenix Children’s Hospital’s Reimagined Neurodiagnostic Sleep and EEG Laboratory

As part of the Phoenix Children’s Hospital’s expansion projects, the neurodiagnostic laboratory used for electroencephalogram (EEG), electromyography (EMG) testing, nerve conduction studies, and sleep studies for children will undergo design and care development.

The lab will support children with neurodiagnostic testing and host a sleep laboratory for overnight testing and diagnostics.

The lab, in part of the Barrow Neurological Institute, currently supports 6,900 square feet of eight patient rooms, work areas, and a lounge for family members.

With the guidance of families and the Phoenix Children’s Patient Family Advisory Councils (PFAC), the lab now includes an updated color palette, lighting, and features to make patients feel at home.

The transformation will include clinician space, a room for bariatric patients equipped with additional equipment, sleeper couches for parents, an upgraded family lounge, in-room temperature controls, soundproof doors and walls, designated cabinets for devices and equipment, and refurbished headboards, floorboards, and furniture fittings to make patient’s rooms feel like their bedroom.

The lab is set to open on April 27.
