Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Celebrates an Indoor Laser Propagation Range

In October, the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Semiconductor Laser Indoor Propagation Range (SLIPR).

The ceremony was held at the Kirtland Air Force Base for the 17,158-square-foot facility.

The $7.2 million project will focus on laser system propagation studies and research capabilities to mend technological gaps.

The facility will also test Special Operations Command laser devices which are manufactured by AFRL’s laser division.

SLIPR features two specialized labs: photoluminescence and X-ray, as well as a 3,500-square-foot high bay propagation lab, and 100-meter-long broadcast ranges.
