UMass Amherst To Open New Engineering Labs

In April, the University of Massachusetts Amherst celebrated the groundbreaking of a new engineering lab for the College of Engineering.

The Sustainable Engineering Laboratories (SEL) will be a $125 million building that will be an innovative research hub for the Energy Transition Institute, the UMass Transportation Center, and the Wind Energy Center.

The set 78,000-square-foot building is intended to have flex learning classrooms and collaborative spaces, an energy operations center, test beds, and a microgrid to use renewable energy and storage technologies.

In addition, the site aims for LEED-certified sustainable construction and set a target for net-zero carbon emissions.
